Hydromechanics facilities |

We use hydrodynamic test facilities at Haslar to test physical ship and submarine models to predict their performance. We use an Ocean Basin (122m x 61m x 5.5m) and a Ship (Towing) Tank (270m x 12m x 5.5m) both of which incorporate a wavemaking capability. The Ocean Basin includes a new model tracking capability. |

The facilities at Haslar are supported by drawing offices, workshops, instrumentation laboratories and operations staff. Models for testing in the facilities can be designed, manufactured, instrumented and controlled for clients, or clients can supply their own models. |

We also have access to other testing facilities, including a large 25m deep reservoir, which is equipped to allow us to use our submarine research model and other models as required. Office space and local accommodation are available if required.
For assessment of propulsion, cavitation and acoustic performance, we use the Grand tunnel hydrodynamique (GTH) at the Bassin d’essais des Carènes in France.
For clients who value fluid dynamics or probabilistic sea keeping analysis we use extensive state of the art computational resource to evaluate concept and detailed submarine designs. In addition we undertake analysis of seakeeping using model data on a large cluster of 210 state of the art processing units. Clients value the ability to consider a wide range of design scenarios incorporating variations in speeds, headings, sea states and other flow conditions. |
