QinetiQ also worked closely with MOD IPTs and Prime Contractors during the Type 45 and CVF design programmes to develop more survivable designs. This same capability will be exercised to support the submarine fleet and future design projects.
The Hull Vibration Monitoring Equipment (HVME) is utilised widely across the UK fleet. To update legacy hardware, QinetiQ's experts are working with MOD on a Technology Refresh programme. MOD are able to sustain current systems and continue to develop the technology for succeeding generations, by retaining subject matter experts from the original HVME design team.
We provide the following range of Submarine Structures and Survivability expertise and facilities:
- Developing, analysing, reviewing and advising on submarine structural safety;
- Recording, analysing and assessing submarine dive depth and fatigue;
- Assessing, predicting and advising on submarine survivability, recoverability and lethality;
- Monitoring, investigating and improving submarine acoustic signatures;
- Shock testing equipment for naval use.
Our Structures and Survivability co-ordinator is Cathy Kane BEng CEng MIMMM. She has been leading teams at Rosyth for many years and has been intimately involved in the development of this programme of work. |
