Originally developed for fast jet weapon aiming, the Eye Tracker has become a flexible tool for applications ranging from understanding behaviour and learning, to evaluating real working conditions and interacting with computers.
Its strength as a valuable training aid has been proved with for example helicopter pilots. Real-time trainee monitoring of eye movements can be used to discover where and when attention is directed.
Analysing the eye movements of highly skilled people as they perform tasks can help us analyse how these tasks are/should be done. Thus the design of cabins and cockpits, control panels, computer interfaces can be evaluated by monitoring eye movements.
