Vocs Direct Voice Input (DVI)

The complexity and volume of avionics equipment within aircraft under a pilots command has driven research into direct voice input control of avionics equipment. However difficulties have arisen due to the high level of background noise experienced in these environments and where the speaker’s voice can be distorted by vibration or G-force leading to these systems struggling to recognise voice commands.

Direct Voice input Direct Voice Input (DVI) allows a pilot to control avionics by voice command without removing hands from the flight controls.

Our Vocs DVI system is capable of controlling a wide range of avionic systems, whilst in flight and in high noise environments such as those posed by helicopters and fast jets.

Thus aircrew can now have the ability to control aircraft systems using voice commands and additionally access aircraft information without removing their hands from the flight controls or their eyes from the outside world.

This has the potential to improve safety as the system alleviates the demands placed on pilots from increasing technology in modern aircraft cockpits.

A real benefit of the QinetiQ Vocs DVI is that it recognises any user’s speech patterns without the need for training unlike traditional speech recognition systems which have been speaker dependent and required laborious training by each user to attain high voice recognition rates.
