Agile C2

In the mid 1990s it was recognised that the Air Command and Control tools developed during the Cold War would not support probable future operations. QinetiQ was tasked under the MoD’s research programme to study the requirement for the UK to
operate dynamic airspace management whilst undertaking deployed operations.

Agile Working closely with the UK’s Strike Command, QinetiQ undertook a number of experiments in their Malvern Joint Air Command Laboratory, and a prototype C2 tool was developed.
This tool was fielded at a number of UK, NATO and US trials and valuable lessons were learned about the true user need for such a toolset.

From this work, QinetiQ's Agile C2 integrated command and control system was developed, elements of which are in use with the RAF and in Malaysia within the Five Powers Defence Agreement. Agile is an integrated suite of air planning tools, enabling the full spectrum of joint air operations to be planned. It comprises three linked modules designed for use at the strategic, operational and tactical levels of command.
