Close-In Situational Awareness System (CSAS)

The Close-In Situational Awareness System (CSAS) provides increased platform survivability through rapid threat detection and hemispherical vision for increased situational awareness.

*
CSAS camera The CSAS system consists of an assembly of Mega pixel cameras with a combined field of view covering a complete hemisphere. Images from the cameras are processed and transmitted over a Gigabit Ethernet network to a display processor, where they are stitched together prior to display on a multi-screen display. The operator can view the whole hemisphere or high-resolution regions of interest. Processing is associated with each camera enabling the application of automatic target detection and recognition aids to the high-resolution camera data.
*

Advantages of the system include:

  • Hemispherical field of vision.
  • Good resolution.
  • High update rate.
  • No moving parts.
  • Affordable.
  • Distributed processing architecture supports crew aids.
  • Digital communications.
  • Low risk vehicle integration.
  • Enables flexible Human Machine Interface.
