Upstart™ The Upstart™ system has been designed for high speed, high payload applications in the military environment. The fully self-contained rechargeable climber unit represents a significant innovation in climbing equipment design and includes the latest in high power battery, motor and control technology in one highly integrated package.

  • Man-portable, capstan-based design for easy rope attachment at any point along its length.
  • Multiple operating modes, including: powered lift, powered descent and un-powered descent.
  • One-part, snag-free and low noise design with single-handed bi-directional speed control for maximum operational flexibility, stealth and agility.
  • 185kg (400lb) maximum payload for fully kitted operatives.
  • 3m/s (10feet/sec) maximum speed for rapid entry and escape.
  • 30m (100ft) static and 3m (10ft) dynamic water depth rating and corrosion proof construction for use in marine environments.
  • Interchangeable Rope Management Kits (RMKs) allowing operation with ropes of different diameters.
  • Multiple carabiner attachment points for the human operator, accessories and kit, giving maximum flexibility in all modes of operation.
  • 60-90 minute full charge time for maximum operational availability.
  • Self-rescue kit for emergency recovery on all rope diameters.

  • Double action throttle with panic grip
  • Emergency brake.
  • Pressure relief valve, test port and moisture indicator.
  • Fully self-contained, tactile and smooth ergonomic design with protected rope route, for simple snag-free operation in all environments.
