Situation Awareness Measurement Toolset (SAMT)

Quantified, accurate knowledge of actual system and network performance is essential in assuring that in-service systems are operating to their optimum capability. This knowledge can only be obtained by accurately measuring the outputs of equipment and systems against truth and presenting the results in a way that is clear, flexible and tailored to the needs of the customer.

Situation Awareness Measurement Toolset (SAMT) is a QinetiQ toolset that enables collection of sensor, combat system and independent ground truth data from single or multiple platforms or systems without the need for an instrumented range. SAMT is designed to collect data under operational conditions and to be as non-obtrusive as possible. Ground truth data is typically geospatial platform data from all of the participating and target units. Common time and spatial standards are used throughout.

A key part of SAMT is Geographic Track Information System (GTIS). This is the principal visualisation tool that is used to re-create various events captured from the various systems and ground truth sources. It is capable of accepting data from multiple formats having been developed over a number of years. GTIS can be linked to the measurement engine Oculus allowing simultaneous visualisation and objective measures of various system data.

GTIS Using GTIS, data can be replayed using video-like controls,
to control the speed of replay and the types of data replayed
at any time. The data can be viewed in 2 dimensions or 3
dimensions using either standard mapping data or satellite
imagery, combined with terrain data.

Experience has shown that being able to provide geographic and military context to observed system behaviours provides an excellent method for engineers and warfighters to understand the significance and value of the observations taken. Animations can be taken and used to present findings of analysis.
