Satellite data is received, processed on site and disseminated via the QinetiQ satellite ground station at West Freugh, Scotland, within operational timescales. This facility boasts 7 dishes up to 13m in diameter to receive S-band, L-band and X-band data links. The coverage footprint extends from Polar Regions to North Africa and from Greenland across the whole of Europe.
The photograph on the left shows two of the radomes that enclose the larger dishes at the West Freugh site.
The data principally involves RADARSAT SAR imagery and ENVISAT optical imagery, although many other satellites are accessible.
The ground stations have also been used for the command and control of the STRV microsatellites and in the near future will support image data reception from the QinetiQ TopSat satellite.
