Cognitive Performance

Performance on complex information processing tasks is heavily dependent upon the constraints of how the brain processes that information.

By applying knowledge of these processes it is possible to design solutions that enhance rather than hinder understanding. There are several advantages to this approach:

• enables personnel to rapidly assimilate, interpret and exploit large amounts of information
• minimises the demands placed upon cognitive process while maximising ease of processing
• develops enhanced situation awareness, decision-making and problem solving
• measures aspects of cognition to baseline performance and assesses the magnitude of improvement
• proper analysis of the cognitive components of tasks leads to designs that support decision-making when under pressure
• the ability to measure aspects of cognition is important for specifying and accepting systems during procurement.
